One of my young female pigeons has been getting occasional smelly droppings. It went away by itself last time(about a week ago) but has come back and seems to be lasting longer this time. She has lots of clear fluid with the droppings which can smell so strong that you pull away. They smell a bit like an overripe drain(not a toilet) and sometimes they can have a slight vinegary smell. I have not seen anything like this before, and she is showing no signs of being ill, I am just concerned this may be something that is developing. This is the young female that appears to have the crop slightly protruding beyond normal when I rescued her, but again it does not seem to cause her any problems.

Any suggestions? Has she just eaten something unpleasant?

I was so worried about the bird that I didn't think to write down everything on the band before cutting it off. I can see FOY, small numbers 201 and think that may be the date 2012. It's id # is 8025. I would love to find the owner. What can I do to find out more info? I live in a rural area and the bird was seen in the area for a week befor it came to my house. CORNING, ARKANSAS.

What could this positioning of the head mean? Any feedback would be great, I'm afraid she might be in pain. If worse comes to worse I'll take her to the vet but before that I'd like to know what you out there think.
Thanks so much.

I haven't posted in awhile, but find my doves behaving in a very agressive manner. I have 7 in a 3' x 10' loft with three cages with locking doors at the end of the loft. I have mainly rescue birds: two older white males, a female who I rescued from starvation and neglect, a female I took in from a new owner and handfed and a young white male who has paired with my handfed female. All of these are white doves. In addition, I took in two young brown crossbred birds and handfed them. They are both male as best as I can tell. So I have a total of 5 males and 2 females. I have never has such disharmony. I had to remove the two older white males to the chicken coop as they constantly cooed, raising hell from morning to night over the attention of my handfed female who paired with the younger male. The two brown ones stopped getting along and I removed the smaller of the two after the other one bloodied his head and picked him bald.

Can I mix these around and by careful observation find couples and harmony? I am thinking I need to change the male to female ratio. I also have two of the birds confined in the cages at the end of the loft and would like to let them out to exercise.

Can someone tell form my story things in dove behavior I am overlooking or other tips? Your feedback will be much appreciated.

Hello pigeon lovers.

It has a green tag that I believe reads:

7164
AU 2013

Some photos of the bird: http://imgur.com/a/bfjhs

He seems to be injured, and is unable to walk at all, although he struggles around. I currently have him in a cardboard box in my garage with birdseed spread around and a dish of water. The box is open at the top.

I'm open to suggestions as to what my next step should be. I hope he regains strength and flies away, but if not I would like to ensure he gets treated.

Thank you in advance.

So within the last few weeks ive had some changes to my pigeon keeping 'plan'....as stated in a previous post I unexpectedly acquired two 11 day old baby homers who had been orphaned. Within the next week I was really happy to hatch my first baby pigeons EVER- 2 german owls. So with the four homers and pair of German Owls I already had, plus the 2 orphaned babies, plus the two new babies from the GO's...I now have 8 birds. This is probably the most birds I would personally want in a loft my size. (6'x4') its hutch style so Its 6'wide by 4' deep + 4x4 settling cage.... what is the best way to set up my loft to discourage further breeding...right now theres boxes in the loft which I know are going to encourage breeding....should i strictly have T perches or V perches etc?

I went in my father's pigeon coop and found one of his birds to be sick. The bird cannot walk or fly. I brought the bird in the house to show my father and he stated that two of his pigeons died this week under the same conditions. He blames the fact that he bought some "red wheat" and it made them sick. He was going to kill the bird and told me that it is suffering. It doesn't look like it is suffering to me. I took the pigeon and put her in a cage alone, laid he on nesting material, gave her food and water (which she did drink and ate) and told him that he is not permitted to kill this bird and that I will take care of her. I am from Buffalo, New York. The weather is warm here now so the bird is outside but caged in alone so others cannot pick on her. Somebody please help me, I don't know what to do for her, I don't even know what is wrong. Has anybody heard of this? When I put her down, her legs just lay behind her. She is 10 years old. Any help would be appreciated.
