YB TrainingHello everyone. I know there are other threads out there about this subject, but i wanted to create a little conversation and see everyones opinions.
what is everyones opinion on training of their young birds? Do you like like to lock the birds down until about 6 weeks before the 1st race and road train hard up until about race time? Do you like to slow the training down over a longer period of time? such as a steady 2-3 month process. Do you see a decline in the birds later in the birds if training hard, or not training hard enough? I know everyone has their own training method and mostlikely have had success doing both. Currently my approach is with my earlier hatches i have trained at a slower but longer time period. my late hatches are going to be road trained alot harder. I am chosing this process for more than one reason. 1st i want to see the difference from my own birds and what they respond to. 2nd, its more convenient when the late hatches are caught up to join them in with the early hatches training stage.

Hi, I start training birds as soon as they would start routing out, if i had 1 or 20 birds i would take the birds. As other birds get stronger I take them along. Once it gets close to racing about 6-8 weeks out i would start taking them out on road trips starting out small like 5 miles and and going up till they were maybe going 50-75 miles. I have over the yrs looked on a maps to kinda see where the pigeons might split away from the racing flock to home and realse them around that area not sure if it helps or not? Going into the last week of training i only do training tosses 40 miles and under. Everyone's Different P.S. if you have a lot of hawks I dont let them free fly around the loft only road training.

Yes i train but not everyday and depending on the lenght of the race. So if they race a 200 on Saturday Ill train them like 35-40 miles on Monday throgh Thursday given them Friday off. Once the races start Im only training to keep them in shape not get them in shape.

cool. thanks for the responses again. do you ever see any wear on your birds later in the year towards the last races, or the opposite? do you see them still in good condition?
