I wouldn't think that a 6 year old male would be infertile. I know that relee has posted a few times about something to give males to help them along........I'd have to go searching for it though. If I find the posts, I'll let you know.

2002?

If he is truly infertile, then the solution is to find another male bird, and allow him to surrogate a family with a mate.

It is possible that he is infertile, but give him enough time with a mate before switching him to another.

Try these things to: Vitamin E, and Brewers yeast tabs will help and protein in the diet will help as far as nutrition goes.

Is this bird in a loft with other pairs or in a pen alone with his mate?

At 6 years old Unless the bird is highly inbred I would think it to be still fertile. Now Somethings can get the bird down. Sickness in the past, Worming to strong Ivermec wormer can cause infertile ewggs for a month or more. You could trim the vent of this bird. And use vit, E 200 unit. for 5 days. If this does no good then He basicly is used up on breeding. BUT as said You do not see this much Unless the bird has been highly inbred. And that is a inbreeding problem when geting family lnies To close to long.

12 Year Old Cock

Hi BLOODLINES, I have a 12 year old cock that is still knocking them out he has two fat squabs in the nest right now.By the way the cock is SMOKE YA MIKE there are still some in the SAN DIEGO COMBINE that may still rember his name lol but that is another story. I never candle eggs as I feel that to much handling of the egg is not good. I also belive that letting the hen sit the eggs is good for her as it gives her time to build up for the next set of eggs but thats me and my feeling, others feel differently. GEORGE

speaking of 12 year old cock

can you believe this one i went to a pet store to get some bird food as i look around on their pens( cause they sale all kinds of pigeon) i found this racing pigeon cock that has a leg band no. NL 97 1626750 and the color of the band is yellow with a price tag of ten dollars then i was thinking is this bird import or local breed from the marks on the leg band, then i was thinking too is that leg band really his?? thats big question mark and i look at the bird it has big wattle nose size of a pop corn and face of an old pigeon and a nugget marks on his left eye excellent body structure and very strong for an old pigeon.... then i said what the heek for 10$ i brougth him home... i quaratine him and stuck a canker tablet on his trout and a gensing tablet every two days his fine. then i would say this bird is a janseen base in reffering to his body structure so pair him up with one of my janseen/valoon female and cross my finger hope for the best...

Too young to become infertile

Diseases and overmedication can cause premature infertility.

Iodine is supposed to increase fertility and is at least one of the things that is in some new fertility drugs. I don't know what else is in them. A few drops of "Tamed Iodine" to a gallon of water will keep the water bacteria free and may very well increase fertility. It's very safe and worth a try.

Vitamin E will increase sexual aggression but I question it's ability to actually increase fertility. Vitamin E is somewhat dangerous and I have observed extreme aggression among birds that were given the recommended dosage. I refuse to use it any longer and it is also toxic at fairly low levels where it can cause lymph nodes to swell in humans.

Bill
