Dan, so which schedule are you guys flying? The one on your club web site or the one on the GARPC web site?
I'm looking at the map and the releases, and unless you all think I've lost my frigging mind.........I think it would behove us to co-ordinate the releases the week of 3/31.
Although, knowing the people we fly with, not sure that it would even be considered.
If the schedule on the GARPC web site is correct, on 3/31, your first race, our second race, the birds are most likely going to go up around the same time, only 50 miles apart and they are going to hit head on.
Our birds are in each others direct paths. May not be a problem 100 miles or so into the race, but 50 miles? They are just getting geared up good.
If you think I've gone crazy, just tell me.............I feel like so many flyers just say "put the birds up" and they are on thier own after that.
To a certain extent, that is true, but if you can avoid a "possible" problem, why not do so? What's it going to hurt? Your birds are flying 150 miles.........ours are flying 220 miles. Wouldn't hurt either group to hold their birds a little extra time. If I could put my birds up at 9:00 instead of 8:00 and them have some sort of clear shot home........I'd be willing. That's just me though.
Warren........if you read this.........what do you think? Am I overthinking all of this?
This is exactly why I can't be race secretary. When it comes to race day, I'm ALL ABOUT THE BIRDS........I could care less whether you need to go to church or can't be home on a certain day, so don't want to birds held because of weather. YOU don't have to fly 100's of miles. The BIRDS do.......I would always do what's best for the birds.......and LOTS of folks would be PO'd. I'm sure I'd get fired.........
ok.......I'm rambling..........
sorry.

Hi Renee,

Since I am still working on my loft, I have not joined the Greater Atlanta Club so I don't know what they are going to do. If I were you I would call Leon Furnish with Greater Atlanta and coordinate it with him. His info is on the members page of the greater atlanta site. Seems to me that it would behoove both clubs to coordinate the release that morning. Since the Greater Atlanta race is shorter it would make sense to me to hold their birds up for a few hours to avoid any problems but, like you, I don't have much in the way of influence with those guys.

Hope it all works out for the best. Let me know if I can help.

Dan

Ok. Thanks. I know Leon and I think he MIGHT listen to me, but like you, I don't have a lot of influence. Without going into detail, there are things going on with our combine, and I expect I'm the LAST person they will listen too. Anyway, I'm going to talk to our President and see if I can make him understand what could potentially happen.

Renee,

I wish I could say that you would have some luck with this one but knowing what little I know, I think you might be yelling at deaf ears! Oh well, all you can do is try.

Good luck,

Dan

Much To My Surprised

HI DAN,That's a very nice web site that you have, sure beats our combine site here in SAN DIEGO.While checking out your web I also went to the GREATER ATLANTA site, and there I was pleasantly surprised,as the president of the GREATER ATLANTA CLUB is an old friend whom I flew against here in the PALOMAR CLUB,in CALIFORNIA, in fact he gave me birds in 1993 to get started.I will be calling him soon. David was one of the nicest guys in the club and combine out here.I just wanted you to know that your web site has brought two old friends back together, thanks. .GEORGE
