Almost done with the race loft set up. only need landing board what you think?paint an perches are added. Just have one question. I should of put my trap in the middle so the perches don't effect the trap. but in the pic from the trap wall to the perches could i add another set of perches or am i to close that birds will get out ? it would be like 16 inches away from the trap whats your thought?
![]() from the outside looking in ![]() pics of the perches. they are 1ft apart an 6inches wide plenty of space for the birds to perch on an rest ![]() next to come landing board an automatic waterier also trap door on floor to have the droppings easily swept into a bucket |

I like it actually. I was thinking building a new loft like that. I either will put a sputniks trap or add california trapping way.

yeah i don't really like the trap i put on it . I'm going to give it the first couple test runs if it doesn't work I'm going to make a homemade trap i thought of. I thought it would be to drafty since the fronts open like that. I was working on it today an it was windy an raining an had no problems no drips or heavy wind and it rained out pretty heavy. I have about 54 perches in there. I think that's way to many perches for that size loft and I know I will not breed that many youngsters so I will have a lot of perches they can chose for themselves.

oh an the best thing about this loft only cost me 90 bucks. I had acouple 2x4 and little odds an ends but its fairly cheap. I think if i bought everything it would of came out to around 150.00.

That is really nice looking.
If you haven't done so, make a door for the outside of the trap that will close at night and when you are away. It is not good to have it open as predators will use the entrance also, if it is left open. You might want to consider a drop trap at some point.

If the space between the wires are larger then 1/4 inch, you will be surprised by what kind of critters can still get in.

yea, a black snake could get in easy, might not beable to get back out if he has a bird in his belly, but at least you would know what happend if one of your birds goes missing. I learned that the hard way with my bantams, and yes a large black snake will try to eat a roosting chicken, I had to rescue two of mine on the same night, good thing chickens cluck up a storm when something is amiss or I would of lost one or both birds.

Since I have seen some nice loft interiors on this site,I thought I would ask a question on AUTOMATIC Waterting systems......How do you MEDICATE the birds, when the water keeps running into the bowl, and if medication is/was added, how do you keep it from getting deluted where it not doing any good ????.....Nice looking loft interior !!!...Alamo

hi there thats a cool loft my friend, i have similar traps all of my sections bar the stock loft and they work fine my traps where close to perches so i made a small type of frame around the inside that came out of the inside by about 4 inches. so if the birds came from the side they couldnt bet near the bobbins as if they come at the bobbins from the side they can sometimes move them and get under them, but when they have to come at them directly because of the frame they cant get out or even very close its one way and thats it, hope this helps.keith

yeah the door is a tight squeeze but i can get in no problem. the loft is 8x4x7. I put 2 foot boards on each side to keep the varmine an such out plus the loft is 2 ft off the ground so they have to really get up there to get in. the perches are 12 inches off the ground so i think they will be ok if anything got into it. we'll see first birds will be in in acouple days
