Breeding

How late can I breed anouther round? If babies are born by may 1 is it OK? What is your cut off date for breeding? I only have 6 birds old enough to fly now!

WOW! You guys start early. Ours isn't until Sept. I personally would say no on May 1st babies.
Depending on how your race schedule is.........maybe they could be flown the 2nd half of the races. In YB's here, we go through the race schedule, (4 races) and then start again at the first station, so late hatches might not be ready at the beginning, but could be on the 5th week of racing. Does that make sense?
Also, depends on how far your races are. Our first Combine race is called a "100 mile race", however OUR birds fly almost 200 the first race because we are on the long end. The guys on the short end are only flying 50 some miles.

Well our races just keep getting longer. Starting at 100 and going to 300 miles. Guess I might have a small team this year. I should have moved some birds into my garage earlier but oh well. Thanks

My orginal thought was that you would really be pushing the envelope.....and then I see you start racing the first weekend of August ! I'm afraid any August races would be out of the question.

Here we start the last weekend of August, and so some of the shorter races in October could work with a May bred bird. The extra month or two of maturity can make a big difference, which is why we start breeding in November, but that has it's issues also...but that is the subject for another thread.

Good Luck.
