Feeding durring breedingJust curious how different people feed while the parents are pumping babies. This year I was thinking I will feed seed mix once before work, a scoop of the green pellets in a hopper while Im at work, and seed mix after work.
What do all of you folks do? |

I have my pellets mixed in with my pigeon seed mix and feed them as much as the eat in a day. If there is nothing left in the tray after the day is over, I add a little more the next day, so there is a few pellets left in the tray at the end of the day (they will of course eat the seeds before the pellets). Yesterday it was -18 here with a windchill around -30. I dont heat my loft, so give them enough to turn that food into body heat.

I feed a pigeon mix, whole corn, and 2 kinds of pellets plus grit. 2 weeks before breeding starts I start adding calf mana, as long as they are feeding baby's they get calf mana along with the other feeds and plenty of fresh water with acv. I'm home all day so I make sure the breeders and baby's never run out of feed. The flyers only get their regular feed twice a day.

Pellets 19 % iodine once a week and acv. I don't keep feed down all the time it seems like they don't feed as much as they do if you feed them 2 times a day. Lights go on at 3 am and off in the morning. I do have heat in the loft, I don't like to have to add fat to the mix. I keep the feed down till after they feed th young and get some for them selfs. If I keep feed down all the time I will have mice, and I wont stand for that.

I feed a grain mix plus they have free choice canadian Peas and Layena which is a Purina product for laying hens. Twice a week I add Whey Protien and Flax oil to the grain mix. When the babies get to be about 20 days old I start putting a little grain in the nest box so they get the hang of it...works real well with the Cocks that flew Widowhood and are used to getting fed in the box....they teach the babies to hurry and eat.
