First training toss

Took my birds out to 1/2 mile for the first toss today, 9 out of 17 beat me home, the other 8 have not come in yet, I have seen a few flying around the area hopefully they will come in soon.

Dark, no birds, not sure what happened, they have been loft flying and ranging well for three weeks now, I released 6 more at the same site 2 hours later hoping they would pick up the lost ones but no luck. I Will toss some in the am and hope for the best.

this being a bad time of year for pigeons in general with all the hawks around could be a real factor in why you dint get all your birds back ... sending good thoughts thou that they all find their way home safely to you

Thats odd losing that many from that short of a distance, perhaps something hit the flock and sent them scattering, but then again odd things can happen from any distance so who knows, thats the one thing about pigeons we will never know is what happens on training/race day.

It was the first toss, all yb's,they scattered out everywhere when I released them. They are all late hatches, trying to get some miles on them before next season.

I am not sure if it was on here or in a magazine somewhere where i read this story, but speaking of odd things happening to pigeons released close to home, i remember reading a flyer said he released his widowhood team in his yard and lost his best racing cock....story was he was going to go training but the weather where he was going was bad so he decided to just let them go at home since they were already crated up and some flew off to return later but his best racer never did return. I could only imagine how he must of felt, it seems right when you think you start to get this whole pigeon thing figured out something happens to leaves you scratching your head.

its true there are just to many outside forces at work to know why your pigeons didnt make it back home today ,all we can do is hope that tomorrow they do make it into the loft again

Same thing happened to me last Wednesday. I took my 6 late hatches for a 10 mile toss and only one came back so far yesterday. I think they encountered another group of pigeons going the other direction.
