Going back inside the loft

okay....i just brought 12 new racing pigeons...the problem is that my first three pigeon i have would not go inside the loft anymore...they just stay outside at night and never go back...this has been happening for at less 2 days now...also i have just renew the loft inside so i could add more racing pigeons...

what seem to be the problem...why has my three pigeons been staying outside at night and never go back in...is it that the i have too many pigeons because my loft is 5ft by 4...or what?

NEED HELP SO I COULD GET MY THREE PIGEON BACK INSIDE THE LOFT....

There's a chance they could be stressed, perhaps with the changes inside the loft, or predators bothering them (like hawks hanging on the wire, etc.). How many perches do you have in there?

If I understand you correctly, you had three pigeons and then added a dozen to the same small loft. I think your original three are overwhelmed - just like a huge extended family moving into your house....I'd be happier outside too! A 5X4 loft is a tad on the small side for 15 birds, esp. when the majority of them are new and pushing out the other 3. I believe you need to rethink the number of birds you have or build a bigger loft...and soon. A harsher option is to write off the three that won't return...maybe provide feed and water outside for them.

A bigger loft would be great. I agree with Mike about the overwhelming part. Having that many new birds come in the loft that they are not familiar with yet, probably stresses them a bit as they don't know what's going on. Plus the pecking order comes into play, so maybe they have a bunch of mean 'cousins'

How long did you leave the new with the old in the loft until you released them?

? were the three birds already trapped trained?or were they young birds that hit the roof without trap training, if they were trap trained then i would think that your birds were so well fed they didn't feel the need to go into the loft, also did they have time to claim a perch as their own? are there more perches than there are birds, so many questions, but one thing that always stands out when birds do not trap is that the owner always feeds too much, if and when these birds do trap in cut your feed in half for a few days and don't let them out until you have the birds coming to you when feeding, then you can let them out and call them in, the birds should be motivated to trap in quickly, this is when you start to gauge your feeding giving only what they will eat in say ten minutes time without a seed being left uneaten! hope this helps!

If you made big changes to your loft you need to give them time to adjust to the changes. I made a wood feeder and put it my loft one afternoon while my pigeons where flying, and they where real hesitant to go in the loft so i had to remove it so they would go in. I put the feeder back in after they where all in and they got used to it in a couple of days.
