This site has limited info... couldn't find anything else though....
http://nbrconline.com/Banding.htm We band our babies at 4-7 days of age (depends on how fast they are growing) I use a small feather to put between the back toe and the foot to help "pull" the back toe out of the band (the quill end). Once the band is on, give in gentle tug to see if it will slide off easily or not. If a gentle tug won't pull it off, you are probably OK. If it comes right off - the baby is still too small..... but try again the next day for sure -- they grow really really fast! Also -- check them each day for a couple of days after you band them, to make sure they haven't slipped off. If you don't check, you might end up with a baby that is too big to band! Momma bird will take a slipped band out of the nest and throw it away - just like they do with the egg shells. So you might not even see the slipped band.Vaseline will sometimes help a band slide on more easily, if the baby has grown faster than you thought, and you have a bit of trouble getting the band on.... just a tiny little bit tho! |

Some people add a personal Band with contact info on it. And that is the other band. Also race clip on bands get used for clocking birds. Or number band for further onfo.
