Grand Opening Of Web Site

If I may be granted just this small consession, I would like to make a tiny commercial for Smith Family Loft, and our new tiny little web site.

http://smithfamilyloft.com/

I am not selling pigeons, so maybe it's not really a commercial. The site is not by any means completed, but I wanted to give my friends here, a sneak preview, before we employ the search engines and various promotions. This way you can say you saw it here first !

This major project, could not have been done without the help of a real pigeon and animal lover. Many thanks to Val at the "Pigeon Place", who also outfitted the Smith Family with the most incrediable pigeon T-Shirts. If you would like to see some of her other work check her site out at:

http://www.pigeonplace.com/

Thanks for letting me share this project with you.

Hi Warren,

Very impressive! I really liked reading the history of Smith Family Loft. Good luck with the website...it looks like the start of something you can be proud of.

very nice site. I love the history. It sounds much like the history of all of us. The pictures on a few pages are covering the first few lines of the text. I do like the logo very professional. Good work.

Not Sure,

But I think it has been corrected.

This is a work in progress, just like my racing pigeons. I told Val of the Pigeon Place, that the birds come 1st., Web sites and pages come 2nd. So progress will be slow. I hope to add pictures and pedigrees in the months to come.

Also, news items, featured lofts, etc. Since first listing the site here, I have had over 3,000 "hits", which they tell me is good. For me, it is all for the fun.

You did a good job. And have made a solid comitment to the ludlo family of birds. I read more on your foundation of the ludlo line. He did very well selecting the birds towards finding his family. And looks like you will try to maintain a certion quality in your family. Your on your way. Glad you chose to go with your web site and maintain a strong family of birds that can help both you and future people get a good start.

Thank You Robert for your kind words.

As we have discussed on other threads, we all have to start somewhere. A family can be built around just a few good birds, from any "strain". The selection process, is what moves the family forward.

Like any proud "parent", I am biased in favor of my own family. Now that I am moving down the generations, the selection process has been impacted by my race course, weather, training methods, management, personal preferences etc. At some point, even if strict line breeding methods are used, they will become SFL "Ludo's", or at some point with crosses, simply SFL birds.

My view was, and continues to be, that the shortest route to long term success, is to start with a sucessful "family", and to proceed from there. It is what I call a "Genetic Package". It is of course, possible to start with a handful of really good unrelated pigeons, and to build a line from scratch. But, what is the advantage in doing so ?

My observation has been that the successful lofts, have colonys, where most are related in some way. The sucessful family lines in the breeding loft, is what can consistantly produce winners on the race team. The key word here is "Consistantly", which may mean as many as 10 out of a hundred. As opposed to 3 to 5 per hundred. That is the real value to a "Family" line.

Not everyone may agree with this assessment, but this is the road I have taken. To each his own, just remember to have fun, and enjoy the process.

True you put your hands on the birds breeding as soon as you paired the first pair. Like like to use the word famiy rather then colany As differnt family groups exsist in the same loft and strain. But means the same. Good commits On the subject
