Healthy Birds = WinnersHere is a concept that is overlooked by most flyers. On race day, the birds that are in super health are going to be the ones that get clocked.
You can spend thousands on pretty pedigrees to get the genes, have a state of the art loft, you could have trained your birds like no other. And on race day, if those birds are not in good health they are not going to preform well. What is the typical response to this delimma ? Guys will start to medicate days or weeks before the race, and pump up the birds full of antibotics throughout the entire race season. By the time the birds are exposed to various germs in the shipping truck, their immune system has been damaged. Figure out what it takes to get a team into form and super health, and then you will have yourself some winners. |

Absolutely! You're right, Warren. A healthy pigeon can out-race a weak and antibiotic-dependent pigeon anyday; regardless of their breeding. Before basketing for a race I like to watch my birds for a hour or more. The ones that are robust, shinning like a gem, vibrating and flapping their wings like a bubble bee are the ones in super health and ready for a race.

Well thats right birds should not be over med or meds given just to fly. Good feed. vitamins. And plenty of loft flying time to get in shape gets them off good. A bird with an alert eye stands out in the loft. And the sky. It seems they are healthy and robust. Ready to make the race.
