Question

How long till eggs

I know I a little impatient but how long from the time bird are together until they should start laying there first round of eggs? We put the new birds in the loft about 10 days ago. There are 4 pair that were mated. It does seem that some pair are changing partners. This is our first round with breeding so any advice will be helpful.

Had the sexes been seperated for any length of time before you got them? Have they been on lights?

Since they are used to being together, it may take a little longer for them to get into the breeding mode. I would put them on lights (16-18 hrs) and give them some nestbowls. Shouldnt take too long. Give them some nesting material and see if they start building a nest. If they do start building, you know that you are about a week to ten days away from eggs!

you will need them in the long run.. a pair can only breed so much before they should take a break.. three rounds for one pair in a season is enough.. you do not want over stressed birds..so you will need fake eggs when your done with them.. and even giving them a break with fakes is a good thing to do in between them hatching birds for you..
