yb sickness

Typically an adenovirus that weakens them then E. Coli or S. typhimurium (paratyphoid) hits. If u have either treat with amoxicillin or if not breeders Baytril (Enrofloxin) for 3 weeks. Old vaccine for paratyphoid is discontinued, new one offered by vet out of New Jersey advertised in Racing Pigeon Digest efficacy unknown due to recent release. If feel your pain i got hit this spring i used 2 weeks of tetracycline then two weeks of amoxicillin. Mine was E. Coli brought in from auction bird, cultured and microscope id'd but i teach biology so i can turn diagnosis into lab work for my Advanced Bio students

You better get them on antibiotics if you don't have anything right now to treat them go to the local farm store like tractor supply etc and get them on tetracycline in their drinking water, 2 tablesppons per gallon. This is typically used in poultry/swine production in the US it comes in bulk powder packets. Take birds off grit and or pellets as calcium binds to the tetracycline based drugs and renders it ineffective. If you can get amoxicillin or have capsules left from a prescription treat at 3000 mg per gallon of water (that is six 500 milligram tablets). You do not need to take birds off calcium if using amoxillin. Change this antibiotic water mix in drinkers daily. In the mess it sounds you are in it is time to take action not ask more ?s. As far as treating viruses u can't treat only give supportive care for secondary infections from bacteria. The puking and green slimy droppings tell me E. coli but antibiotics will help E. coli or Paratyphoid both as they are both bacteria. Treat the birds as quick as you can, sanitize your loft, and improve the ventilation in your loft.

After you are finished with antibiotics it is important to give a probiotic to re-establish good gut bacteria balance. After my issues I started live apple cider vinegar ( by live I mean with the mother of vinegar present/ non-pasteurized) in drinking water 3x per week.
