Some YB in the settling cage

I just finished my YB loft, and I am a little worried about settling since they are so strong on the wing right now, but couldnt do it before the loft was complete. Wish me luck!

Thank you, I just hope there is no hawk attack during the settling process, then they will for sure be gone! I swear there are more birds of prey than house sparrows these days!

Hey about settling them, since they look older. I have said this a million times and I'll say it again because it has always worked for me.

On a nice rainy morning, no thunder, absolutely no wind just a nice rain. Let the birds out with whatever fancies you have that don't fly well (fantails, sattinnetes, etc) they will just peck around on the ground or they'll stay on the landing board, they might do a few laps. You should stay out there with them because they aren't going to be able to get away from a predator.

Thanks, appreciate the help. I dont have any fancies at the moment, but i plan to get some soon for this very reason. I think the rain idea is a good one, thanks for the info.

I ran into the same thing this year with my YB's. I had birds that were strong on the wing and didn't want to trap into their new loft. For a few days I would put them out in the aviary and they would have to trap in to get fed. Once I had them out flying I had a few that didn't want to come in. After two days of being out without food they trap in when the here the dinner bell now.

Good to hear! The hawks would snatch them up if they sat out for 2 days here, but at least you didnt lose any!
