Thumbs up

Terry - Congratulations!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Terry (Theresa) Whatley, this is our wonderful rescue rehabber,
she has just advised me that she received a surprise today when she opened
her mail there was a Certificate of Recognition and Appreciation from the
American Racing Pigeon Union for all the assistance she provides through her
hard work and dedication to the pigeons she assists in her daily activities,
she is one dedicated lady that works from before sunup until after sunset to
do what she can for any needy pigeon.

Terry and I met back in July of 2004 over the internet when we started the
911 Pigeon Alert Group, Terry was concerned with me as a pigeon racer and of course I had my concerns only because of my new adventure with the 911
Pigeon Alert Group and how all this would work out with my being new to
assisting with the rescued pigeons and being one of the ones the
rescue/rehabbers had such a hard time with understanding and trusting, well
we have come very far since that time and have become very close friends, we count on each others support for assisting these wayward pigeons, and when the going gets tough we seem to come up with answer for each other, it has worked out so well and I have to say I have found a very close friend in Terry, sure don't know what we would have done without her years of
experience to guide the way on some of these cases, we have now gotten up
into the thousands of birds by now I am sure and still going strong and very
rarely does Terry ever scream for help, although I must say Ohio got her
going, but she is now all the wiser of getting those birds back up to
complete their journey when ever possible. Terry has become such a pro at
finding those banded pigeons owners and she no longer shies away from
calling a pigeon racer to see about what can be done to assist a downed
pigeon in need or any other fancier for that matter. I am sure there are
still times when Terry must wonder if we have all lost our minds I wonder
that myself sometimes so that is quite alright, but you all need to know she
has really gotten quite good about calling to ask what the heck we are doing
when something doesn't quite seem right and she is willing to listen as I
try to explain why we do what we do, it is has been a blast Terry....

Way to Go Terry!!!

Thank you so much for all you do, we all appreciate it so very much, you
deserve that Certificate so much!!

Ellen

Ps. A note to the American Racing Pigeon Union, thanks you all are the best
in showing recognition of all the work that Terry has done, I am honored to
be a part of such a supportive Organization.

Hi Ellen,

Thank you so very much for sharing the news.

Sounds like a great venture, between rehabber and pigeon racer. You are learning from each other, and together with the internet, the reward is the pigeons are getting back with their owners, quicker and better, then ever before! Those little "thoroughbreds of the sky" certainly need & deserve all the help they can get.

Congratulations, Terry for this achievement, and to you Ellen for all your help!!!!

Treesa

Thank you Treesa, Lin, and Brad! It was a very pleasant surprise to find the certificate and a lovely cover letter in my mail box yesterday. And .. yes .. thanks to my "pal", Ellen, for now having embarrassed me on every single pigeon related list that I am on! I am, of course, kidding in that last statement.

Ellen has become a very good and dear friend through our adventures with the 911 birds and through finding out that we aren't much different after all. I've learned a great deal from Ellen in the past year, and we (meaning everyone on the 911 Pigeon Alert list) have surely seen to it that a lot of lost pigeons found their way home, lots more that needed a home found one, and in a couple of cases, really large numbers of pigeons were saved from being euthanized. It's been a most gratifying experience.

Her comment about Ohio is really a quite amusing story .. yours truly finally lost it over the weekend when dozens of birds were being reported found in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York .. Ellen had cleverly managed to be gone for the day, and I was "stuck" with the 911 list by myself for a good long while. Eventually I screamed "UNCLE" and asked for help from the other moderators .. they came through like champs, and Ellen had herself a really good laugh when she got home and saw all the posts and discovered that I had actually called a pigeon racer that we both know for extra help and advice.

There were at least two and now I think three very big and long races in that geographic area over the weekend and the returns of the birds was poor .. ergo .. dozens of "found" bird posts to 911.

So .. live and learn .. I did both .. lived and learned, and with the exception of perhaps one bird, all ended well.

Whew!

Terry

Congratulations, Terry

You've done something really new. You've solidified the cooperation between feral rescuers and breeders that started here. You and Ellen have actually put those two worlds together. And with 911 Pigeon, you've created a list thats disciplined and effective.
