Too old to train to my loft?

Hi,

I am looking at getting a pair of racers. One of the ones I am looking at is about two months old. The other was born in January but has never been flown. If the older one has never been out of it's loft will it be able to take to my loft or is it a risk?

Thanks for the info.

If your plan is to fly pigeons out of your loft, you might be better off finding youngsters that are 24-28 days old.
If the two that you are looking at are the ones you want, you can try to settle them by establishing a routine for them in your loft. Make it a comfortable environment, so they will be motivated to stay. Keep them inside until they are responding well to your system and feel at home(7-10 days?). Release them before feeding and do not chase them out, but rather allow them to find their way out in their own time.
There is always a risk with any pigeon when you try to settle them to your loft, regardless of their ages, but I would say older youngsters, that have never flown can often be the trickiest. Good luck.

Too Old ?

Hello Dogs,

I agree with everything Grizzled has said. Safer to get some YB's just weaned. Otherwise you risk losing them.
