Up, Up and AwayWednesday afternoon I went out to check my birds. There were three racing homers on the roof of the loft. They were trying to get in the loft with my birds (fancys and a few rollers). Assuming they were hungry and thirsty, I caught them during the evening and put them in a special pen by themselves. They ate and drank heavily. After a good nights rest, I tossed them in the air. They came back to the top of the loft and stayed there for a couple hours. Later in the morning I checked outside and the three birds were gone. I assumed they continued on in their travels home. That night when I went out to feed my birds, the three birds were back. I caught them again, fed and watered them and they rested through the night. Friday morning I released them into the air again. This time they circled and took off north. I did not see them again.. I found from the bands that they were all from Washington state racing pigeon clubs, about 300 miles away. I sent an e-mail to the club contacts telling them I thought the birds were on their way home. Early this week I received a phone call from one of the owners. Seems all three birds got home ok and it turned out they were the only ones who made it home from a 400 mile race for old birds. There were 22 birds released that day. I would hate to see the yards-per-minute of the winning bird.

ThanksFor your compassion you made it possible for those birds to make it home. To bad pigeons Don't have a rest stop. Debbie

Hi Al,
Yes, I agree with Debbie. Thanks to you, these 3 birds found a pit stop for good food, water and a rest. After this, they got their barings and headed home. What a good outcome for these 3 muskateers! Thanks for being so kind ![]() |
