Solid Whites can be found in every "family" of birds if you breed for it throughout the years. You will mostly see "strains" such as, Delbar, Janssen, Bandit, Pletnickx, Stichelbaut, Mortvedt, Sion and any combination there of. Now the trick is can any of them fly under any distance from a few feet to hundreds of miles away from your loft based on your training and health care management, your environmental conditions, etc?
It took me three years to finally get a solid white racer for my system of doing things. How do you intend on flying them? Race or White Dove Release's? Or simply loft flying? |

Timber is right. Basic rule is either breed for color or breed for racing. If you want to win races color is the last thing you look for in a bird.

My two birds I sent you are part Sion and part Mortvedt, do you have any other breeds of Whites? Like Janssen or Delbar?

Hey Tony,
Ill be sending you my "Special Blend"...LOL They are Mortvedt Whites crossed onto my Hall Whites which are a blend of Sion & Bandit Blood. This combination has worked good for me so far. Being that we are just south of you, they should fly just as good there as well. |

Mortvedt Roger Mortvedt's family of birds are JANSEN /VAN HEE cross he has built this family over many years. He has good birds, Roger is a friend and I have known him for about 10 years.I do not race any longer but if I did I would have some of his birds in my loft GEORGE

The white homer is just that, a Homer. It will tend to beable to fly around the loft and even return from short to medium (2-25 miles) road tosses. It may take him/her a few minutes to return or may take up to hours or even days. The White Race Bird, will do all of that above but come home faster and is able to return from hundreds of miles, in a few hours. At worse the next day but its much more reliable the the "White Homer". Now ofcourse, if you do not know which one you have, you will have to fliy them and test them. Over time judging by your losses, it will be clear on what type you have. If you do not like your results then, youll have to bring in new birds that have the instincts to accomplich what you set out for them. FYI: It took me three years on a "working mans" family budget to finally get a Solid White that could race the distance. Its a work in progress mind you but it give me a "base-line" to work from and hopefully improve my results with proper selective breeding, training and racing. Hope this helps..... |

once you start looking for color,
you will soon notice that your loft has already suffered greatly, |

That depends on if you want to be successful at racing, then that is good advice. I don't ,so Im very happy with a bird that can only go 30 miles or just be nice to watch flock and fly around the house. not all homers are racers, but they still can be enjoyed.

Big T,
Thats true. Its been a lot of hard work (costly I should say) to get a good flying white. But lets not forget ours are dual purpose, Racing and Dove Releases..... Even my normal race birds, I have a soft spot for anything with white on it, flights, pieds and splashes. It is simply eye pleasing when they are all out flying. I always know which ones are mine come shipping night and race day simply by the colors...LOL |
