First I would try to locate fellow racers in your area. Visit there loft. discuss with them clubs what breed is flying well in your area. You should be able to go with a open front loft where you live. Because average temps are mild mostly. Decide how many pairs you want in the future as breeders. Make sure to add for a youngbird loft area.old bird area breeder area and then a seperate hen loft for off season. Then start with just a few top birds rathere then several reg birds. join the club and A U Breeding season for racing homers is getting started now in many parts of the country. Do not be in a big hurry as If you get a later start. Theres allways next year to start flying. But you can get your loft built find birds And visit and learn from local cub members as you get started. AND aften members will assist you as they can in getting a start. Might check a feed store if you do not know of any flyers as yet. They could lead you to a person that races near you.

Welcome

to Pigeon talk. I am happy that you want to get into pigeons. Me and my kids enjoy them. We have Brimingham Rollers, Indain Fantails , West of England Tumblers and most resistily a pair of Modenas. I had racers and they are neat birds. go online to the diferent racing clubs and email them for help. Continue here and ask all questions your heart desires. We will help you enjoy your pigeons.

Daniel,
As was mentioned above, find a local club. See if one of the older, experienced members is willing to take you under his wing and mentor you. People who have had years of experience are usually very willing to help and educate, especially "pigeon" people.

A good place to look for fellow pigeon people is through the AU www.pigeon.org. They can help you find fanciers in your area. My new AU yearbook has over 100 fanciers located in the islands. You will need a breed that can fly over water. I would also advise to start with about 6 or so good pairs of birds. I started with six and raised three rounds, a good race team. Look on the Redrose web site. They have a great help a begginer program throuh the AU for second year flyers. You could add to your stock this way. You can join the AU fairly cheep. I was lucky to find someone to get me started.
