Winners Cup -- go hens!

I went to the Winners Cup site to see the race results, after reading the threads about it here, and noticed that hens took most of the top 30 places, in all three distances.

Results from links on this page:
http://www.wincompanion.com/one_unik...hp?skin=winner

the 150 mile race - the first 30 birds are all hens
the 250 mile race - 23 of the first 30 birds are hens
the 350 mile race - 27 of the first 30 birds are hens

I would have expected a more even distribution among the genders... are hens usually faster?
I've heard of a European loft that is very successful and only races hens...

(if I have read those results incorrectly I will crawl under a coop and not come out until it's time to feed and water the pigeons).

thats true they were mostly hens there ,the only problem with wanting to fly only hens in a 1 loft race is you would only be guessing that the ones you send are hens at such a young age

I'm not sure the hen or cock column on those reports are 100%. I would have to ask Bill but I think he enters that as the youngsters arrive to the loft. So, many of those hens could be cocks and vice versa....

Its the same with me showing my birds. My old classic frill hens are much better birds then the cock birds, im sending 9 hens and 3 cocks to the show. I could of been just as happy sending all females.

I suspect that when the birds are registered early in the year, when they first arrive and when only 4 to 6 weeks of age, if the sex is not known....that the system simply defaults to Hen...just like WinSpeed.

On the other hand, who knows, I don't have a single cock left on my small YB team.
