YB cocks mating?At what age (aprox.) will a young male begin to mate with a female.
The reason I ask this is that I have a 2004 cock that has great parents as said in my other threads. Now I would like to pair him with a 1998 hen as she was also great. Would this work. Do age gaps worry pigeons. Should I pair these two and if I pair them how long do I leave them alone. The young cock is in my wendy house with 3 hens and one other cock but he does not seem to show interest! Could someone advise please

birds meet sexual maturity at about 6 months old. the age gap will not be a problem at all. i have a 04 bird paired with a 98 bird right now. many people say to mate pigeons that have a gap in their age. hope it helps, chris

AgeI believe it is best to mate a young bird with an older bird. Babies will have a better chance of making it to adulthood.

I have some Jan & Feb 05 birds that have realized they're cock-birds and have started chasing the ladies around here starting a month or two ago...
 Also, I have a 96 Hen that has mated with an 04 Cock on more then one occasion. Pigeons don't mind the "May... December" thing...
