Young Birds--FeedingOnce my first round has been put in the yb loft (25-30 days old), when do I start reducing their food consumption for the start of training? Should I slowly reduce the protien to get them on the race diet?

I'm not a expert on this matter but I would say reduce the protien content slowly to atleast 14-16 % a soon as you start training them up to the race day.
I personaly mix two type of feed all year long for all my birds. one with 14% and the other part is 16% content.

Well, what i did was while they are in the young bird loft try to get them to hand feed. Always, once they are weaned keep them looking to you for food. love of you and the loft are critical. amounts of protein, as far as i am concerned depends on how they are flying. you do not want them fat but they are still growing and need their protein. Do not worry about race diet until they are flying good. If they seem to not want to fly, cut back the feed. In my opinion it is quantity, not the content of the feed that is important at this time.
I would not cut back on protein unless they do not fly good. Protein equals energy, to a point. Dave. JMHO |
