Talking

taking a dip

I'm new to this whole pigeon thing, but yesterday when my husband and I were hanging out with the two fledglings we're taking care of. After feeding them some peanuts, they both went to the water dish for a drink. the water dish is a 14" pie pan. after a drink they both climbed in and splashed around, then they laid down on their sides. My husband started to spritz them with a spay bottle of water, which previously they didn't like at all. This time, they both lifted their wing as high as they could and spread them wide, so they could get sprayed underneath. After a minute or so of this, they both got up and turned around to lay on their othe side, lifted their other wing and spread their tails so he could soak down the other side.It looked like pigeon syncronized swimming

The funniest thing i have ever seen my pigeons do is we had this one youngster just came out of the nest and was out in the flight pen. He was on one of the perch. he took off ot the opening to go inside. He completely mis-judged the landing and ended up sitting on the ground dumbfounded. I laughed so hard.

Another time was with my first pet pigeon. She was very protective of me. The one time i was in the pool and we had one of those floating chairs and i was just relaxing and here came snowball down into the chair to sit with me. then she went to the end where the water was coming through the mesh and she took a bath. So funny.

Another time with snowball was we were in the back yard on a summer evening. she came down and sat on my shoulder. as my brother came closer she puffed up her feathers and when he was sitting next to me, she wacked him right across the face with her wing. Never forget it

I've actually seen my birds do this alot, but after they take a bath (if it's not too hot) they will all fluff out their feathers, lay on there sides, spread their wings out, and close their eyes. Once my mom saw that and asked if they were all dead. I bet she would have believed me if I told her they were!

Funniest thing I have seen my young birds do was I tried using a couple of empty milk gallons for waterers and one young bird decided he wanted to take a bath in it and got stuck.

No art lover

Like a good mommy I hang my sons artwork on the front of refridgerator. After a few days we were hanging the pictures kinda low on the door. Every night Brute gets the run of the house until I go to bed. One night she had gone into the kitchen to bathe in the dogs water bowl, but then I heard all kinds of rustling and crinkle sounds. Out of the corner of my eye I see Brute standing in front of the frig. One at a time she is yanking TJ's pictures off the frig and dragging them into the corner. If I took them away and rehung she was right behind me yankin them off again. I gave up til she was in bed.

That's really cute. Maybe she was trying to make a nest.

Years ago when I first introduced Bliss and Walter, they were circling each other for a wing-wacking fight. I was nearby to intercede if things got out of hand since Bliss was 330 gms of Old German Owl while Walter was 790 gms of King pigeon. As Bliss circled with his back wing up for balance, he suddenly leaped several inches in the air (so he was a bit taller than Walter) and "Whack" - hit Walter on the head!!! Walter was so startled that Bliss was able to repeat this manuever several times before Walter recovered and charged him, ending the battle. (Bliss nimbly departed the scene and flew back to his nest box.)

I had a week old chick running in my cage with a female helmet. It was cold and decided to cuddle in the wings of the helmet. Since she hasn't had any squabs for a while(eggs were pulled), she started to regurgitate for the little baby chick. It was like she miss having her own babies. It was a good thing the chick didn't start to feed.

The funniest moment I've had with my pigeons (I wish I'd taken a picture!) was recently when my hen Sweetie Pie was perched and ready to get into the mating mood with Dovey.
He perched on her back, and while in the middle of the romantic moment, one of the kids
jumps on his back- it was a triple decker pigeons! LOL

One of the funny things a baby of ours does is she likes to land on me, I walk in the loft if my backs turned cleaning etc, I will just feel this clunk and then she scrambles to my shoulder and if I'm facing her she fly's over looks as though she will hit me in the face and veers off at the last second to land on my head or shoulder, she will then call to me and stick her beak right in my ear or nostril, sometimes finds the little skintags and moles on my neck and tries to peck them up like food and if I try and talk and don't realise she will poke her head right in my mouth, the times I have had to spit a pidgie head out before I can talk is unreal!!

I have one like that. He's my favorite! LOL. Even grabs my tools, and tries to pull them away from me when I'm working out there. The loft is built off of my house. There are two large windows that lead to it. I can watch them and all their monkey-business from inside the house. Luigi will come to the window and peck at it to get my attention. He was about 2 days old when rescued, so he's very comfortable with me. He's a little clown.
