Little NikkiHi everyone,
As some of you know Reti has a very sick little birdie in her care right now and has been keeping me update on h/her. It is one that came throught 911 Pigeon Alert and is one of my cases. I had asked her if she could pick up the little one for me and Reti said yes. I didn't know how bad because neither her or I was told, just it had problems with the legs, so we didn't know until it was in Reti's care and she had called to let me know exactly what was going on with this littl one. Reti is an angel, my knight in white shinning armor and I don't know what I would of done without your help. Reti, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Reti has been keeping me updated everyday through emails or on the phone. Well! today she gave me some hope for this little one even though it's far from being out of woods yet, I feel there is some hope. I know most of you only know me from posting, but my good friend Terry knows me and how I will do anything to help any pigeon I possibly can, I guess one can say I have a very strong love for pigeons. I'm not sure if it's because they where the first birds I had ever had contact with when I small, a love for birds, or because they are beautiful, but like say it's all three. Last night Reti and I talked on the phone and she asked what I would like to name it, so I emailed her back and asked her how does the name Nikki sound. This morning she emailed and wrote: Nikki reading the computer along with pictures, so I wanted to share them with everyone. Nikki looks so much better than when Reti first got Nikki. Well Anyway! here are the pictures of Nikki.

It really was quite a saga, Renee. The bird # on 911 is 4072007-3315. Mary Ann can fill you in with all the details, but basically this poor little bird was found by someone who reported it to 911. That person took the bird to a wildlife rehab center, and they transferred it to another wildlife center. The second center was pretty insistent about putting the bird down, but after much, much ado and many phone calls from many people, the center finally gave the bird up. Reti has another thread with more pictures and details of the sad condition of the legs on this little bird.

Mary Ann, what a terrific job you did to save this little one. Nikki suits her. If anyone can help her, it is Reti. Sounds like there is quite a story behind this little pigeon.

I don't think it is a racer, but for sure some mix it has in it. She has a big ceres, I've never seen that in ferals.
She is still very young, maybe around 3 months. The feathers, especially flights don't look good cause she uses them to get around. When i got her she was covered in poopies so I had to give her a bath yesterday and she looks much better now. I feel bad I need to keep her isolated from my birds and she has to spend a lot of time in the laundry room. I take her out as often as I can and she enjoys fully her time at the computer. Now she turned around in her little basket and watches out the window. She is sooo sweet. LOL, right now she is sleepy and her eyes close then she percks up, probably thinking to enjoy herself while out here. Reti

That is quite a story and I'm sure Nikki is glad to be settled for the time being, and she couldn't have found a better place to convelesce.

Thank you everyone. Nikki still needs lots of prayers to get h/her through this rough time. It became very stressful at one point for me where I actually broke down and cried. I was the only one that could give permission to put this little one down and I made my decision that this little one is not to be put down and it was to be given to the person I sent to pick h/her up which was Reti. Well anyway! I got Nikki in a safe and caring place and being well cared for.
Renee, Terry is right, it was quite the saga, I had most of 911 Pigeon Alert involved in this one (LOL). At one point I was ready to get in my vehicle and take a trip to Florida. It wouldn't of been the first time to go pick up a bird and something tells me it wouldn't be the last. Treesa and Maggie, Your welcome and thank you. I had to make the call on this little one and did what I thought was right. I couldn't turn my back on this little pigeon and I knew I had to get Nikki out of that place she was in, but if not for Reti and her help it might not of been possible. I know I couldn't of placed her in better hands, I thank god that Reti could do this for me. When Nikki is well, h/she will shipped to me to live out h/her life, but right now Nikki needs to get well before h/she can be shipped. Maggie, I'm glad you like h/her name and yes there is story to this little one. Shi, Either Reti or I will keep you updated. I know tonight I can get a good night sleep.

Hi everyone, I could say godd morning, but it's not for Reti and me, our little Nikki passed away early this morning. Reti and are not taking it well, all I have been doing is crying. Reti did her best for Nikki, but with all Nikki's health issues that's all we could do is hope and pray for the best. I can't finish writing right now because every time I do the tears come down more, but I just wanted to let y'all about our Nikki.

Oh, Mary Ann........I'm SO SORRY..........
 I know that everyone involved was hoping for a miracle. Sometimes it's just not meant to be. Take comfort in knowing that Nikki was WARM, LOVED and had the BEST CARE during her last few days. All of you did the very best you could and that's all anyone can ever do. Now Nikki's legs work perfectly and probably for the first time, she's walking around. Hugs and more hugs to you..............

I am so terribly sorry to hear the news. Words can't express how I feel.
