Story of a kitten

Well, I haven't been on this message board for about 5-6 months. But I am back and plan on staying for awhile at least lol. I do have a story to tell though.

So this weekend I went out of town to KernVille. My good friend chad was going to be up in KernVille as well at the river house. The hotel we were staying at was across the river from him. So we drove over to his place and my parents dropped me off. We got tubes and put on clothes to swim in and put on swim shoes. We started to walk across the river in the low spot. I fell over some rocks and when I hit the water the river sucked my wrist band off that my girlfriend gave to me. I've had that thing for about 2 1/2 years. I always had it on and only took it off to wash it and take a shower. I just stood right where I was and I was so mad that I was dumb and left it on. I know it might now seem like a big deal to other people. But that thing meant so much to me and it was taken away from me so fast. I tried my hardest to grab it out of the water before it went to far down but it was to late. So after being mad at myself for being dumb. We started walking up the river band to find a spot to jump in at. We found a spot and got in and then got on the tubes. We floated down and it was fun. We got out and went higher up the river where we found bigger rapids. So we jumped in again and started floating down. Part of the river was so deep that when you got off and tried to stand the water was to your chin ( I'm 5'11). Then a bit farther down the river it was so deep I couldn't touch the bottom even if I pushed myself down. We got back on the tubes and then floated back down to his house and took a break. Then we went back accross the river to see if my parents had checked into the hotel or not. They still didn't so we walked back up the river and jumped in and came back down. Then we took another break and had a monster energy drink and fruit. Then we went back accross the river and they checked in but left about 5 minutes before we got their. So my friend asked for a key to the room just to get some food. Then we went back accross and they were at his house. So we got my sister and she got a raft. We walked across the river one last time and then walked up the road about 2 miles. We got in the river and started floating down. Part of the river isn't deep enough to float over. So we had to get out and walk about 10 feet into the deep spot. As we were walking we heard a weird noise and then saw a little kitten stuck on a little island no bigger then 5 feet long! It jumped onto a rock and kept trying to get to use. As we got closer it jumped into the water were the current was fast and their was a lot of rapids. I started getting taken down the river and it couldn't swim. So I ran after it and grabbed it before it got to far. I got back on my tube and floated down the river and saw some ladies standing by the part were it was deepiest. So I pushed myself towards them and got out. I asked them if they wanted the kitten because I knew we wouldn't be able to take it since we have 4 already. She said she would live to since she wanted a kitten. So we found it a home and it's now safe. She told us she would either name it Kern or River since it was found in the Kern River. So besides the fun with going tubbing and everything.

Nice story. You lost something of value but were able to give that kitten something of priceless value, a life. Congratulations on a safe rescue.

Hi Erik!

I am sorry to hear about your wrist band and sure understand how you feel! Perhaps your girlfriend will be able to give you another one?

Saving that kitten was so INCREDIBLE! I am a cat person so I REALLY related to your rescue. If the kitten had been "lost," his life could not have been replaced!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm happy to know you by "site."

Well done on the 'kitty' rescue, Erik.

That is some beautiful county up there.

If we woudln't have been up there that day odds are it would have died within 2-3 days if not that day. I'm really glad I got a chance to save the kitty!

wow, how the heck did it get there? probably someone dumped it there, call me a cynic , but cats USUALLY dont go into the water on their own.
congrats on getting him out, and well, finding a home so darn quick too! you were the hero in this story! and everyone loves a hero, so i'm sure you're gal will hook you up with another bracelet! i know it sucks, i've lost things like that soo many times, and every time it feels just as bad.
so, you were a GREAT middleman, keep it up kid!!
