2 Day Old Baby HELP!!!!

Hi my name is Jacque and I live in Arizona. Thursday night at about 7:00pm I found and egg in my driveway, (it fell from about eight feet) I had noticed the nest a while ago and have been keeping an eye on it. I was very surprised to find the egg because I thought they were gone the mother had not been there for days. Well anyway so I saw this egg cracked and heard a peeping so I went to pick it up and the baby was breaking out. He got almost all the way out but needed a little help. So I brought it in the house and tried to help it not knowing what to do. Once I got it out I made it a little nest with newspaper and clean dish towels. It made it though the night last night with heating pad on low and food every 3 hours. I have been giving it warm water with baby cereal, and then pediolite with water. It has pooped about four times over the past day and last night. But I am worried...you see its head is very wobbly and it does not quite understand how to use its legs. It takes a long time to feed it I don’t know if I am doing things right. I put a little food on its beak with a syringe and it kind of half way licks it and opens it mouth to get it in. Its crop fills and looks like a balloon. And then I but it to bed and it just sleeps. I just need to know what else I should be doing and if I am doing things right. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hi,

I have just re-read your post. At 2 days old a baby will have a wobbly head and be unable to walk. After feeding the crop should be like a soft balloon.

THis thread will be both interesting and helpful to you, it is about someone in the same situation as you who had two hatchlings to raise:

Where in AZ do you reside?
Nancy Eilertsen, owner of East Valley Wildlife, lives in Chandler. I'm sure she can assist you either with the bird or helping you find a rehabber that hopefully lives nearby you.

You can post a picture by scrolling down to, & clicking on, Manage Attachments. Then click on Browse, find your picture, click on it & then upload.
