Advice needed ~youngster in a vent

Hello. Since I joined 5 weeks ago when a baby pigeon entered my life people here have been so great & that's why I'm back for more advice... There's a vent upstairs with an round opening on the roof of about 6-7 in. & between the ceiling to the roof there's an open space about 12-15 in. high & maybe about 1ft. in ea. direction. So, yesterday when I was upstairs I heard the loud tell tale sound of the baby squeek. Knowing that sound very well now, I looked up through the grate of the vent & saw a youngster (can't tell the age by it's shadow). Worried that this was another lost one I bravely climbed the thin metal ladder onto the roof, luckily heights don't bother me. When I got up there I saw 3 grown pigeons walking around. Then I went over to the vent & took off the cap which is still open on both ends (who invented that?) & before I finished that I was knocked off my feet when another grown pigeon flew out! So, I am guessing that was one of it's parents & they are in fact still caring for it. Which now leads me to my ? of since it still so young will it be able to learn how to fly out of this small space that is almost straight up & out? I mean the adult can do it, but my youngster is still learning to fly & he's 7 weeks! If I can leave him alone with his parents & he'll be fine ~great 'cos that's best! I just want to make sure that he can get out safely... Any advice? Please help! Thanks!

Hi Littlefoot

Pigeons can pick the strangest places to nest. As long as the parent pigeon can get in and out the baby should be able to also when he learns to walk around.

As long as the location presents no hazards I'd leave them be but just keep an eye on them. Will the nest and poop present a problem for you since it is in a vent on your house. You definitely don't want them stopping up a furnace or stove vent.

The vent is actually in an upstairs room in the building I work at. & it doesn't seem to serve any actual purpose except maybe to let the outside air in (& pigeons ). If you think that the baby will be able to get out, then that's great! & I will leave him there for his parents to care for. Thanks a lot for the good advice!

Oh sure I'll go check on him. I can't really see him unless I were to unscrew the vent lid & peek in, but I can hear his little feet taps & squeeks.
