Question

Baby pigeon found, Astoria NY

My daughter and I found a baby pigeon not yet able to fly and not fully feathered. We cannot keep him/her but are taking care of it until we can find place the little one with someone able to care for it.
Is there anyone you know of who can help us?

Thank you and your daughter for rescuing this little pigeon.
Please, make sure the little one is kept warm in a box lined with a towel. If you have a heating pad you can put it on low and cover it with a towel and let the baby sit on it. They still need warmth at this stage. If no heating pad available you can fill an empty water bottle with warm water cover with a towel and put it next to the baby.
Also until you find a place to take him, he will need food and water.
You can start by giving him water at room temperature with a syringe or eye dropper. Open gently his beak and put one drop at a time in front of his beak and hopefully he will swollow it.
After a few hours of hydrating him you can offer him some baby cereal mixed with water, room temperature(in case you have not baby bird formula).

We have several members in NYC, so hopefully they will be online soon.

Here is a link with rehabbers

Hi Annatoo,
please feel free to ask any questions you might have in caring for the baby until you find a rehabber in your area.

Although we actually didn't give you advice on caring for the little one unless, someone e-mailed you, without our knowledge.

Hopefully, that is the case, but we are here if you need any help with formula, feeding, etc.
