Baby pigeon sitting on balcony?Yesterday morning we discovered a baby pigeon sitting on the "inside" of our balcony. I don't know much about pigeons but according to pictures he looks about three to four weeks old (quite small and his head is still very fuzzy; I've got pictures of him). At first we thought he'd flown in and wasn't able to get out (this has happened before with an older one, which we picked up and basically tossed out; it was perfectly fine after that), but this one was younger so we didn't want to risk it. Later on, an older pigeon came and we figured it'd help him out. The next time we saw them they were both sitting on the outside edge of the balcony, so we left them alone, but I checked a few hours later and the baby was still sitting there, alone. This morning I've come back and he's still sitting there, looking somewhat ruffled (it's been windy). I think he's been there all night.
I'm not sure what to do now. I don't even know how he ended up on our balcony in the first place - we haven't had any pigeons on it all summer so far - and I'm not sure what how in need he is of help; he looks like he's waiting for someone, which is why we didn't really do anything. But is there anything I can do without bringing him inside? I definitely do not want to keep him (even if I did, it wouldn't be possible) and I'm afraid to feed him because then he'll become dependent on me. I've never had any close experience with pigeons before... |

He most probably came from a nest nearby.
Put some food and water out for him and keep an eye on him. The older pigeon is probably the father, coming to feed him. If the weatrger gets very bad again he might need shelter. Have you noticed any poops? If so, could you describe them? Can you upload a picture of him? Oh, and if you let us know where you are we might know of a sanctuary that could take him if he isn't managing. Cynthia
