Banded roller found.Got a call from a lady near here about a pigeon that decided to live in her car port. We went out last night and it was very easy to catch, but perfectly healthy by the looks of it. She'd been giving it water and feeding it wild bird seed. The birds mouth, eyes, ceres, and vent were clear and clean. The bird isn't light weight and the keel feels perfect. The bird was very tame, so whoever it belongs to must have spent a lot of time with their birds. In a couple hours I'll call Foy's (it's an IPB band) and see if they can help. The lady said she tried calling somewhere but they said she didn't provide enough infomation from the band to help.
It's a little '04 hen, and she sure is cute. If I can't find the owner, I'll need to find someone to adopt her. I've got too many birds to take in anymore ![]() Since I'm not really asking for help, I don't know if this is the right section to post this under But I just wanted to share about my little rescue and let you guys know what happens ![]() |

Hi Becky,
Thank you for helping this little sweety. I sure hope you can locate her home. If not, be sure to post in the adoption section.

She sounds like a sweetheart. I do hope you can find her owner. You know rollers don't usually fly very far. They are released to fly around their loft, as you probably know, unlike homers which are taken miles away and fly back. I'm willing to bet this bird's owner lives within a couple miles of you. Back when I used to fly my rollers I lost a couple on different occasions and got them back because of the snap-on phone number bands. One was found less than half a mile away and the other was three miles away. Any feed stores in your area? You might see if you can put a flyer up in your local feed store.

Well I got the contact info for the guy who bought the band. Couldn't get a hold of him today but I'll keep trying. The only thing is he lives about 2 hours away, which based on how healthy this roller is, I don't think he actually owned the bird at the time. I'm guessing he sold it to someone more locally. I just couldn't see a roller surviving that long to get that far
But you never know. I'm hoping for the best ![]() |

:(Well we finally got a hold of his wife today. Turns out the man passed away a year ago, and they sold all his rollers to a man we're very familiar with. Another downside to this is that the man that bought his birds is still too far to imagine a roller ending up, so we figured he sold it as well. There's no way we'd be able to find out who the most recent owner was (the guy buys and sells a lot of birds), but luckily we're going to a pigeon swap tomorrow at his house, where we may find a nice new owner for this bird. She's such a pretty bird, I'm sure someone will be glad to have her

That sounds like a good solution, Becky. Rollers are popular and I'm sure you'll find someone at the swap who raises them and might just need a hen.

Well. Just a little update to finish off the thread. The roller is now being cared for by one of our members here, Luckyloft (Jeff). I'm glad she could go to someone I trust with her
