Corporate Culture !!! against common senseAfter they messed up their nests and eggs, they have installed all kind of barriers to prevent pigeons for landing + TRAPS.
I hate this fake behavior: with one hand they are collecting charities and with the other one they KILL. As a result of the first action, last pair has been resisted until December when they have been trapped and ( of course) killed. Their late babies jumped out their nest few days ago. Thirsty, hungry and frozen. I could not resist seeing them in this condition and I caught them and brought to my home. They are doing great now after a week of feeding and warm environment and they look to be at the age to learn to fly (have feathers but not all over their body). They eat and drink even if the cage is less than 5 cf. WHAT TO DO NEXT? Releasing them in this whether (-15C and the forecast is ugly) and without supervision is cruel. On the other hand, my 3 cats are very nervous. Space is limited and they need something else. PLEASE HELP with valuable advises. I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Thank you in advance, MD |

Hi MD, and welcome to Pigeon Talk. Thanks for being compassionate and concerned over policies that inflict pain, suffering and death to the pigeons in your area. Thanks also for helping the young pigeons to survive in the face of the loss of their parents. Perhaps you could allow some free flight time for them in a pigeon safe room for an hour or so a day until you find better arrangements for them. Maybe even the bathroom, w/toilet seat down, and caps on things that might be of curiosity to them. I'm sure others will be along to offer their suggestions. Thanks again for helping these two young ones out.

Wow...
Thanks MD for aiding these little ones... Maybe someone in your area could take them and raise them somewhat more, toward their being able to fend for themselves in the out of doors...or, keep them safe and happy till Spring...someone who already has Pigeons of course...and knows about their care and keep. If I were closer, I'd be happy to do so! But I am too far away... Phil Las Vegas |

you know...sometimes it shocks me how people can be so cruel. I just dont get it. I cant understand how any living human being can do that to a living creature. I think most of the poeple who do that sort of thing have no concience and are downright well on the road to hell. Thank god for people like you and us that care for these poor birds enough to take them in and give them food, warmth, and love. I hope these people can find some compassion for these creatures, because one day when they are sick and old they may just get the same treatment they inflicted on the animals.

EvilMonkey666,
I don't know what it will take for these folks to realize their part in the playing field, but I do hope that they will one day learn that we are all intregal parts of a whole. fp |

Thanks For helping the young oneshow sad it is that people resort to killing of innocent animals, birds etc. Are there any more pigeons hanging around there? if so you may want to buy some wild bird feed and let them see you place it somewhere, it may prevent them from going into the traps for food. If you still see traps with birds inside of them maybe you can find someone willing to go up and release them at night. Also exposing this company who is doing the trapping or hiring of a trapper is a way to get them to stop, fliers handed out infront of the company with photos of the babies with no parents would get the public to voice their shame on them. Just some ideas. You've already done more than most so I (we) thank you for helping them.. Maybe e-mails to the company who is doing this would help also if you would like to state their name on here I would love to send them a nice letter, as I know others here would too...

This seems to be a good thread to bring this to everyones attention.
Speaking of "ignorance"... That by itself is not a crime. We are all ignorant of some things, no matter how smart and intelligent we may be. But "selective ignorance" is where the problem lies. And its our job to bring things to the forefront to enlightin those who don't know any better. Going to try and bring this post from another group.. If I just copied and paste, it would be tremendously long. I hope this works. Gary H. Lengthy but tremendously valuable information presented by Jim Jenner, director of "Share The Blue Sky" and "Oldest Feathered Friend" DVD's to the British House of Commons in November, 2005. This is the kind of testimonial those who are needing to convinvce local city councils and ordinance committee's of the value pigeon keeping brings to their community. Much of this speech could be directly adapted into your own presentations to such governmental bodies, in addition to service clubs, local garden, zoological, 4-H, or Scouting groups! Hi Gary,
WOW!!!!! What an inspirational message you have sent to our forum, not only to the newbies but to all of us who have been involved in pigeons for years. Your words and this incredibly passionate article has literally brought me to tears But on a good note....I'm nearly speechless after reading your post and this article. So many things rang true in my own thoughts and feelings, so many images brought to mind, so many millenium of generations of people loving pigeons, caring for them, involved with them it's just incredible to think about! I've always known about the unique and awe inpiring history people have with pigeons globally, we all feel the same, we've literally been predispostioned to want them around us and I really believe that. However, this person really brought it all together in the most poignant way. One point I found very true was mentioned about how pigeons can make or break a young man's "goodness". Growing up with pigeons as a hobby, passtime, or "love" of your life can really bring "light" into one's heart and soul. I"m not really a religous person but all these ideals can fit and meld a person into who they become. What a wonderful piece you've shared......THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! |

Happy End!!!Thank you all that have answered to my post!
Following Terry's links I have contacted Toronto Wildlife Center and thy have a program in place for this kind of situations: First, the babies are supervised for 1 week until they are sure they' re healthy and can feed on their own. Second, they are transferred in a much more larger area where they are learning the social pigeons rules. In the spring they will be released. As per today at noon my babies are in their custody. Once again thank you for your support Marius |
