Sounds normal (the stretching behavior).

Doves are generally more excitable than pigeons and will bump into windows, mirrors and ceilings more often. One member, pdpbison, attaches foam to the tops of their cages to help soften the blow, in fact. With windows, though, they usually think that their life is "out there" and that's the way to it, thus the bump. In such cases, it's better to not let them fly free in the house (especially during daylight hours when windows are more compelling) until it's time for their release.

Hi Amber,

They will not fly into dirty windows, so, if your windows are too clean, make them foggy-dirty-opaque and your Dove will be safe then.

They need to fly, the like to fly, it is best for them if they may fly all they like, and indoors is fine.

I do not cage them beyond the barest necessity for their initial convelesence, and, as absolutely soon as possible, I let them free rove in here.

Wild Doves truely hate being in Cages, and will typically, easily injur themselves with 'launching' when forced to be in one if they are able to fly.

As Pidgey mentions, my practice for Doves when they have to be in a cage for a while, is to fasten a couple inch thick piece of soft foam rubber to the cage inside top, so when they 'launch', they will not break their necks or knock themselves out or give themselves a concussion or otherwise hurt themselves.

Of course young or baby Doves or tame Doves or hand raised Doves are a different matter, and they are not so liable to be so easily spooked or to need the same deferences as the wild ones do...

So, just make your windows to be 'dirty' and opaque, things should be fine with that...

Best wishes,

Phil
