Found: Banded pigeon, opinions welcome!Hi, A banded bluebar came in to my yard today, well he appeared in the sky with my whites whilst they were up there.
He looked so cute, he joined in and went along for the ride. Now apon locking the loft tonite, there he was in there with them so I took down the numbers and phoned the Ph number on the band. The Ph number was a central service who then phoned the owner. A fellow phoned me tonite and left a message because I was out having dinner. He will ph me again tommorrow. He didnt sound very happy, well not as happy as i would be if someone picked up one of mine. Im wondering, will this bird be Ok when he picks him up or will he cull him due to him not returning like the others probably did? I mean, id be happy to keep him, should I offer this? He doesnt have my address yet. My birds are still young and learning , perhaps this one could teach them some flying skills?

By all means, let this fancier know that you are willing to keep the bird and that you have pigeons too. That gives him an "out" if he really doesn't want the bird back. If he insists on coming to get it, then you have to let him have it back and the bird will be fine. He's not going to go out of his way or make a special trip just to pick the bird up so he can kill it.

I'm glad the owner is happy to get his bird back, and that you have a source for getting some white pigeons.
Thank you for helping this bird find its home, and thank you for the update.

That's good news. Glad it all worked out for everyone, the bird included. It's SO much better if a lost racer can go back home and continue to fly. Otherwise, where ever it goes, it becomes a prisoner for the rest of it's life.
