found two small pigeons

Today my husband found two young pigeons in a nest on the top of the silo today (about 92 feet up in the air). He had to move them because they were getting ready to start the unloader and it would have killed them. He carried them both all the way back down the silo ladder, what a brave man!!! I looked at a few of the suggested links, and closest I can tell they appear to be between 21 and 25 days old. Beautiful babies! But now I need help feeding them. We don't want to force feed them if we dont have to. I put them in a large dog kennel in our back room to keep them safe from all our cats and dogs with some cedar chips on bottom. We also gave them a dish of water and some small finch seed type birdfood, but haven't seen them eat yet. The pics I took tonite are too dark, I will have to take more during daylight tomorrow. They spread their wings and flap, but do not appear to be ready to fly. We have a colony of pigeons in the old barn behind our house, I would like to turn these loose to live with them once they are able. Any good advice? Thanks.

Hi besoles,

Wow, that was quite the high nest!

Nice work...!

Well, if you like I can send you some feeding and friend-making info suited to them, but it is too long to post here so write me from your usual e-mail...I am at pdp1@earthlink.net

Too, if safe to do, you could soon ( after establishing SOME daily feeding occasions with them to let them know you are 'Okay', )...you could soon let them visit on the ground with your other feral ones in a supervised way, and they will soon learn from example to perfect their pecking skills.

Soon with that also, in a succession of such forays, they will elect on their own to go and roost with these other Birds, and then your job is done...

Best wishes,

Phil

Thanks for saving the baby pigeons!
It may be best to bring them in from outside. If they're small they may die of exposure.

Could you please determine the age of the baby using the following website?
