I have a fledgling also and I'm freaking!

I am furious with our SPCA Wildlife Center - I drove this little found fledgling there today only to be told "Put him back outside and let nature take its course"! How can I do that, that's MURDER. He/she is probably 3 weeks or so. He is BIG but cannot fly. My cat had him cornered and I don't know where he came from - I have no trees and there are no birds in my direct yard because of my cat. I have been monitoring the skies for pidgeon coming and goings. There are some pidgeons maybe half-a-block away. Should I put him in the trees over by them? I am devastated! I don't know what to do for this poor little guy....it breaks my heart to watch an animal in distress. He is not injured, the SPCA checked him. I am in Monterey California.

Three weeks of age is a bit young for pigeon squab to fend for themselves. If you can bring the bird inside and perhaps isolate from cats in the bathroom, you could continue w/supportive care for this young pigeon. Is this possible?? This baby needs formula, or other supplemental feedings until well
on the way of self seed feeding.

FYI,

I have moved your posts to its own thread, so it can get the attention it needs for responses.

Hi there,
You can hand feed the pijie puppy chow soaked in warm water till it's soft but not mushy, and keep him till he can eat and fly well (maybe a week or so). We have both pigeons and cats in our tiny apartment, it's not a problem at all. If you decide to try to do that, people can give you more detailed instructions what to do...

Is the fledgling drinking water on his own?
