Injured pigeon found in Chino, CA - needs care and a homeThis a.m. while leaving for work, I saw a pigeon being chased down by a cat. I stopped to save the pigeon and brought him to my home - his leg is injured - but other than that, he seems OK. I have him in my garage in a cage - he is relaxing in a safe place. I am planning on cleaning him up when I get back home today.
He is a dark gray - nice looking bird - if you are interested in him, please let me know and we can make some arrangements to get him to you. Thanks - JoAnne |

Hello and Welcome to pigeon Talk, Thank you for helping this bird escape the cat. Please follow instructions on the following link: http://www.pigeons.biz/forums/showthread.php?t=8822 If the bird has actually been caught by the cat and has any kind of wounds it will need an antibiotic like Clavamox or Augmentum. Here is a list of resources to locate a rehabber in your area. http://www.pigeon-life.net/prd.htm |

Hi JoAnne! Welcome to Pigeon-Talk and thank you so much for assisting this injured pigeon. I'm in Lake Forest in South Orange County and would be happy to take the bird if you are able to get him/her to me. If I'm a bit too far, please call my friend, Susan, in Orange and see if she can lend a hand. She is a permitted wildlife rehabilitator and can be reached at 714-637-8355.

Hi - thank you for your reply.
After I found the bird this morning, I had to work a couple of hours. After I got home and cleaned the bird up, I determined that his wound was a little more severe than what I originally thought and that he would require a vet - I was afraid he'd develop an infection. I called several local vets and no one would take him because he was considered a wild bird. So I got on the Internet and found the Westminister Veteranarian Hospital - they have a wild life refuge also. They were willing to take him - so I drove him out there. They indicated that they would do their best to mend him and release him back outside. I really think he'll make it. He was in good shape other than the injury. He may never have use of one of his legs, but I've seen a lot of birds out there with one good leg and they make it. Thanks though for offering to take him. |
