pigeon eggs

we have alot of pigeons at our school but our principle doesn't like them so if they find baby pigoens they take them away and kill them, so me and my friend found a nest with 2 eggs in it and if the school found them they would take them away so we took them and put the eggs under my friends clucky chicken , i was wondering will they still hatch????

They might hatch. But if they do I am not sure the chicken can feed them. You will have probably to hand feed them.

If they were fresh, or the parents had been sitting them until you moved them, there's a good chance they will hatch, as Reti says.

Once they hatch (if they do) you will definitely have to remove the babies immediately and hand raise. Believe me, this is not easy.

You could suggest to your Principle that instead of killing baby pigeons they replace the eggs with plastic ones as soon as they are laid. The "life" in the egg isn't sparked off immediately, so there would be no killing involved and the pigeon numbers wouldn't increase.

Perhaps the students could get involved in some sort of project that would benefit the school, the students and the pigeons.

Sorry i haven't replied, we were at the coast. But Molly (my chicken) is still sitting on the eggs and is very protective of them! Yes i think we willl have to hand feed them, if they hatch. The eggs were still fresh as as soon as we got them we run home which only took a minute. We can see the baby inside the egg when we hold it up to the light. Is there any way of tellign whether its still alive?

Sometimes you can see them move, that would tell you they are alive.
