PlaCida.Walker.IndiGO WinterHome advice appreciatedGreetings.
(Shh...) PlaCida.Walker and IndiGO have moved from zsecretgarden TerraCottaClub to their winter home... and it's indoors. I remodeled a bookshelf and they are approximately five to six feet from where I am sitting. Everyone seems fine thus far... a little confused, but fine. Questions ~ as I've never housed a bird / much less three indoors. They do all have their own space ~ room. Should I run a humidifier when things get 'dryer'? ~ The heat is via a radiator. Sun fills the room during the morning... Is there anything 'special' diet wise that they will need? Clean water is a given. PlaCida (the curious one) appears healthy / just has that bad foot. Walker still appears to have discomfort when walking. And one wing droops when Walker relaxes. This happens when standing or lying down. IndiGO doesn't want to leave and appears to have difficulty flying. ~ Could be the featherbed and maid service... Also, I have a cat. Is there anything health wise I should know. She won't be lying in poo or hanging in the winter home. And is there anything in general I should know... / have for them. Videos? ![]() Thank you! ~ 4zp. |

Greetings.
Here is zWinterHome. Sorry the photo isn't fabulous. I couldn't get back far enough. As it was I was leaning into a window / wall. So far all is fine... PlaCida is one busy busy pigeon. On day one I kept hearing this 'splooshing' sound... I'd look over to see bird eyes looking in the distance or at me and nothing more... Then again the noise... 'sploosh sploosh' ' tap tap tap...' I'd look to again see bird eyes looking to the distance... I finally placed myself where I could see... Well it was PlaCida ~ Ever so busy taking a bath in the lil' mason jar. The other excitement on moving day was Walker made a break for it. Poor thing jumped out from the second level / managed to pull things together and flew up to the curtain rod before I could catch him/her. Picture attached. and dear IndiGO is still in the grumbly grunting stage. Quite the day. ~ 4zp. About zWinterHome Construction: To create more depth I got a long 1x12 and attached the 1x12 to the original bookcase. I used mending brackets to join everything = the shelves to the walls / I also used small shelf brackets to hold the shelves up and to attach them to the side walls. I too used a strong glue between the shelves and sealed the joints with silcone. I also put plexi-glass on the floor and under the 'lifted' beds... The front is screen. The two side pieces are stapled to the structure and the center piece overlaps the sides and is held down with curtain rods. I painted with a mildew resistant primer and paint. < 2 coats of each. |
