Red feet on very little baby?

My little baby's toes and the tips of his wings have turned red. Think I should be concerned?

Also, his crop doesn't seem to be emptying. It half empties, then just stops. I've made his mix up very thin (more like dirty water,) and I'm now mixing yogurt in. It worries me though, since I can't get as much food down him as I want. Any suggestions?

He is now living inside, in the warmest room in the house. I'm thinking of putting a heater down there with him though, because although he is warmer than he would be outside, he is nowhere as warm to the touch as big baby is. For any who are curious, I'm feeding him using the bag method. He gets nearly as much food on him as in him, but I find it easier to handle than a syringe, and I can get him to grab it in his beak.

Big baby (now named Bing) is still outside and growing like a weed. I offered his mother some egg-food, which she thought was manna from heaven, devoured, and then stuffed down his eager throat. He is so full I can see individual bits of food though his skin. I shouldn't worry about her over-feeding him, should I?

I'm not sure that the red toes and wing tips are anything to be particularly concerned about, but as Reti posted, a picture would be helpful.

The crop not emptying completely in a reasonable time is definitely something to be concerned about. You might want to try giving just baking soda water or ACV water for a couple of feedings and see if this will help in getting the crop to completely empty.

If this baby is falling severely behind in size and development, then I would also be concerned that there is something else going on .. perhaps paratyphoid.

Keeping the baby very warm is a good idea.

I wouldn't worry too much about Bing being overfed though it is always a good idea to keep an eye on things.

Hi redgriphyn,

Can you give more background or what led up to this?

How old are these two, they are siblings?

One was steadily getting ahead of the other in size-weight?

If you hold this Baby in your palm, is he 'hot'? Is he making his own body-warmth well yet?
