Some good news from 'Crow-Baby'

Crow-Baby, a Pigeon, when about two weeks old, had suffered a truely gruesome attack from purportedly, Crows...this was in early May I think, last passed.

Anyway, all the skin on the upper areas of his head died and shrivelled up and fell off soon after, and new skin grew in from the edges...at some points i that one could see his skull proper showig through the cracks of the receeding shrinkig dead-ski areas...and from which time, with the new skin grown in, he has been bald as a door knob.

Being a black Pigeon, this gave him a look which has resembled 'Uncle Festus' from the old Adams Family tee-vee series of years past.

Anyway, about a week ago or so, new Feathers began to incipiently appear on his head, and so a couple days ago I took some digital snap shots, then took one again yesterday showing the progress of these new Feathers.

Some images at -

New Feathers are also growig in on what had been a bald area of his lower back, which the Crows had also lacerated badly.

Also, he is now startig to do his 'Ah-Rooo-Ka-Roooo!" twirly-Bird territory dances and to attack my hands when I am working on the computer, which he likes to sit or lay next to. Also he is claimig increasigly high places of incidetal roost and defending these from other Birds who may come near.

I still feed him via 'Seed-Pops' several times every day oweing to how his upper Beak was damaged from his original injuries. I had made some tiny prosthetics for his Beak's earlier configuration, but it changed then and twisted to where the little augmeting aides will not now help much...so...I still brood on that matter off and on since it would of course be so much more conveniet for us both if he could self-feed via pecking...

So, anyway, with four months delay, these new Feathers are now showing up!

And so goes 'Uncle Festus' it seems...!

Best wishes all...

Crow Baby sure is looking better (in spite of your Uncle Festus comparison <LOL>!) .. very well done Phil and Crow Baby!

Better watch yourself Phil .. sounds like Crow Baby is working up to ruling the roost at your place!

Phil,

Festus was in Gunsmoke, Uncle Fester was in The Addams Family. Lin wanted me to tell you that, but fortunately for Crow Baby, it really isn't needed at this point.

Anyhow, it does seem that animals have better regenerative powers than we do. What was scar tissue is evidently differentiating into the correct cell types for the placement at least with the skin, it seems. I still think we can make a true prosthetic beak and anchor it with pins. The pictures that I have showing that hurt to look at, but what works, works.

I'm so glad that you have the patience and perseverence to handle Crow Baby's infirmity, though, and I admire you on that!

Thanks Pidgey..!

Yes, I goofed up the 'Festus verses Fester' there...Lol...

I am glad also he is gettig these additional Feathers in since it shall be Winter before long, and he would other wise be pouring heat from that bald little head...

Hmmmm...'pins'...

Oh golly...

Send me them drawings again..! I lost all in my Outlook Express a while back...(and am going to need a new keyboard sometime soon too, since the odd errat Pigeon poo has caused the 'n' to become very hard to make work, and the space bar, and some other letters too...Lol...)

Phil,
Pijpoo and keyboards don't mix. Try covering your keyboard with Saran Wrap when the little devils eye it with a thought towards mischief.

I'll have to look up all that stuff again but most of the really pertinent stuff is out of the Big Book.

Ahhhh...he is a little charmer, and has been a fine greeter and ambassador for new arrived others.

Now that he is starting to get 'Aroooo-Ka-Roo!' ing, I do not know how much of a 'greeter' he will be! Maybe those days are over now...

Although he attacks my hands now, if I say, "Hey Crow Baby, you wanna have some chow?" He comes right around in a happy mood like usual for the feed-time routine...very cute...
