where's the crop?I found a baby pigeon yesterday. It looks just like the one in Valxx's post. I am in NY too, Queens. It seems to have grown bigger since yesterday.
I didn't think they grew so fast! Anyway I'd appreciate if someone can send me a picture or post it here pointing out where the crop would be located. You can e-mail me at RegalU@msn.com or aulan@msn.com. Or if you can post it here, that would be cool too. It is a feisty little thing! I really like him/her. I hope I can eventually release it though. |

WelcomeGreetings and glad you stpped by. What a blessed bird that you found. If you take your finger and start a t the under side of your babies beck and go down the neck. At the end of the neck is the corp. After the crop is the breastbone. The corp feels like a balloon, that may or may not have food or water in it. If it has water then it feel mushy. If there is seeds in there it feels kind of like a bean bag. Others will be along shortly with pics or posts.

The crop is located just under the throat, but above the breast. You will see it fill up after the bird has had plenty to eat. It feels like a partially blown up balloon with beans in it.
Check this pigeon resource site: http://www.duckpolice.org/BirdWeb/Pi...nresource.html Click on :From Egg to Bird scroll down to the 2 day old & 6 day old pigeon, you can see the crop ln front (under the beak) as it lays down, kind of like a balloon.
