wild Baby DovesWhat age do doves have the ability to home?
2 doves where found about 5min away, about 2 weeks old at the time. One flew away 3 days later. It returned once for a drink hours later but I haven't seen it since. The other dove is still with me. I'm curious if it was possible the other flew away to return to its natural mother. |

What sort of doves are these? Eurasian Collared doves fledge at beween 17 and 21 days old. They don't have the homing ability of pigeons, but youngsters that I have released have disappeared for the night and returned in the morning...and at that age, the parent birds would be able to recognise their chick and could have continued caring for it.

These are turtle doves I think.
I haven't seen that dove since. That was also the one that didn't really want to be touched or handled. The other, is complete opposite. I think this one's going to want to stay with me for a long time. |
