A Man's Love of Pigeons and His Fight to Feed ThemInteresting article in the NY Times about this guy who is being harrassed by the city of New York.
I'd love to contact him and let him know he has my support. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/20/ny...=5070&emc=eta1 |

It is good that the article is on Cecil Pitt's side. He is being persecuted (the charges regarding the dog are proof of that as they weren't investigating the dogs) but were he in the UK he would have probably been served an Antisocial Behaviour Order on the word of the neighbour alone. When it comes to intolerance I think we would top the list every time. I hope that he is allowed to carry on with his feeding in peace.
One of our members is being persecuted by the council for feeding pigeons, they lie about what they see and about what she has said. Cynthia

I'd love to send my supportive thoughts too, I really am stunned at the amount of hatefulness in the world today.

I guess people have nothing better to do than complain.

Instead of a nieghbor calling the authorities they should have gone over and talk to Mr. Pitt's first, so much can be done by just making a new friend.
This poor man only wants to live in peace with his dogs and feed the pigeons. The article stated that when he moved there it was just a dirt road, I can just imagine the history about their nieghborhood a person could learn from him if they just took the time to be his friend. Its just sad... so very sad when people would rather point a finger than extend a hand in peace. ![]()

That's really true Robin and it's all that hatefulness. No one cares a wit about anyone else or about anything at all except having their own grouchy way. It's like everyone is in a snit and ready to lash out at the first convenient target, all the time. It fills me with despair.

I just spoke to Mr. Pitts and he has a court appointed lawyer that is given to him at no cost. I told him he had my support & he was very appreciative.

I wonder if we could get e-mails through to his attorneys office to let the people/courts and Mr. Pitts know how many around the counrty (world?) support his feeding the pigeons.

How about sending an email to Cara Buckley, the lady who wrote the article?

I , too , would like to do what I can to help and let this man know he isn't alone. Shame on the complaining neighbor, shame on the city inspector who went after his dogs as well as the initial bird complaint. And lastly, I'm sure there are bird feeders all over the city. Why is feeding pigeons being singled out? Other birds defecate all over the place as well. Just live with a free flying Starling for a week! I suspect this has more to do with the mistaken perception of pigeons as carrying disease and the general bias against them than reality. Twenty pounds of seed rationed out over a week isn't feeding that many birds, and I'm sure other birds as well as pigeons are flying in to feed.

persecuted in NYI can just imagine what is going to happen next. We have a nut for a city
councilman ( Simcah Felder) that wants to pass a bill to ban the feeding of pigeons. People caught would get a $1000.00 fine. Since I feed the ferals in a park near my job I have to be very careful. I already have a security guy that makes my life miserable about this. I thought about stopping and then said to myself forget it. The birds need the food especially no toe(A feral that lost all but one toe on both feet I guess because of thread toe). The way I figure it if this bird can survive like this he deserves a helping hand. Keep us all in prayer Pat |
