Avian flu and pigeon shows

I was concerned a couple of weeks ago when they banned pigeons and chickens from a show in the UK...for some reason they mentioned only pigeons in the headline.

These are links to more positive news from Northern Ireland and Guernsey:

They are having the big show in Sweden now, they did not stop that one. Sooner or later we will get our shows shut down like with New Castles in 2001 they canceled the National. Its coming as sad as that is. Personally I hope no one brings birds from oversees to the National in San Bernardino and something happens. You get birds from all over the world together in one room image all the air-borne bugs! I am going to give antibiotics to my birds before and after the Show. Happy Thanskgiving

Antiviral

I might try antiviral pills. Before and after. As well as a 6 weeks seperation. I may take them for myself sense they are my Rx. It is worth a try.

Dear Group
I have just returned this afternoon after visiting The
European Modena show in Bulle, Switzerland, and to round off a great
weekend I have just been informed that Nottingham Championship show
will be allowed to stage their annual pigeon event on the 28th of
December.

As you may remember in one of my previous posts from the United Kingdom NPA
representative Mr John Surridge had a meeting with Defra[United Kingdom
government agency ],the outcome of which all our pigeon shows were banned. At
the meeting Mr Surridge presented evidence from Canada, South Africa, U.S.A. and
all of the IMC Yahoo group information and factual statements were presented.

Defra has now checked out each and every fact given and a decision to
downgrade pigeons to a low risk category has now been given. Great
news indeed. This does not mean that the show will be staged in the
usual way as there are still strict guidelines that will be closely
scrutinised for any breach of procedure.

I am very pleased that the IMC has had a fantastic effect on the United Kingdom
pigeon hobby. I thank each member of this group
who has contributed information re bird flu virus, especially Raymond
Julien who was most helpful and UK member Graham Giddings for passing
on all the facts to Mr. Surridge.
