Desperate need for farm animals to be adopted due to Hurricane Katrina

URGENT PLEA FOR HELP FROM FARM SANCTUARY: Your Help Needed! Mobilizing for Rescue

Our hearts go out to all of the families, humans and animals alike, who have been displaced as a result of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. We have been in contact with state agricultural departments in the region and have been placed on the Mississippi and Florida contact boards for emergency assistance. We’re also working with HSUS and other animal groups to ensure that any farm animals in need of fostering and/or placement assistance will get the help that they need. We have received preliminary reports of the deaths of thousands of chickens in Georgia and Mississippi and new reports are coming in every hour. Given that the five states affected by this disaster produce one-third of the animals used for food production in the U.S., we can only imagine how many animals’ lives hang in the balance. WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you live in the region and would be willing travel to some of these rescue sites as a member of our Emergency Response Team or if you are interested in joining our Farm Animal Adoption Network to adopt any animals we are able to rescue please contact shelter@farmsanctuary.org.
