Mourning Doves Choose Red Ford F-150 ..

as their nesting place

http://www.ocregister.com/articles/g...-corrigan-nest

There are links to additional pictures and a short video on the newspaper site that you will
see when you read the article.

I got in a baby ostrich yesterday morning that turned out to be a tiny, little, baby Mourning Dove.
The finder was just certain that he had a baby ostrich. Even after discussing a few pertinent facts
like the size that a baby ostrich would be and the fact that ostriches nest on the ground didn't convince
him!

Awwwwww, thats very sweet of the Dealership to have gotten into the Spirit with this...

Kind of unusual I'd think...Mourning Doves are usually very shy, and prefer quite hidden and high Nests ( at least in Las Vegas anyway...)

Terry,

Have you ever hd a "Baby Ostrich"?

THAT would sure be a handfull..!

The finder was down at the Animal Urgent Care with the "ostrich" .. he and they were just amazed at what long legs the bird had .. thus it had to be an ostrich. I knew I would be getting a pigeon or Mourning Dove or perhaps a Mockingbird when I went to pick up as my questions revealed that it had fallen from a nest and was about the size of a golf ball plus legs and head. I cannot tell you how many California Condors, Golden Eagles, and other very special birds that I have gotten in that turned out to be pigeons and doves.

Doesn't matter .. the little birds got to where they needed to be!

Eeeeeeeeesh...if they 'tent' over the Hanging Plant-with-Nest, I would guess that the fumagation process would likely kill the Babys.

If one remove the Hanging-Plant-with-Nest for a couple days till the process is over, and put it/them back ( caring for and feeding the Babys of course while this goes on, ) then, the parents, though possibly a little baffled, would likely just accept things as-they-are, and continue with their Brood I 'think'...

How VERY kind of the dealership to let the babies stay. Very cool story. Yep......I'd take those babies at the apartment complex. Not sure that the parents will except them back after two days.......they could try, but I expect after the first twenty four hours of the parents looking for babies/nest and not finding one, they'll go else where and just start over.

Condo Babies ..

were rescued along with their Mom on Sunday night. They have gone to the songbird rehabber and will be released back at the site where they came from when the babies are big enough. The Mama dove was really quite docile and pretty easily gotten right off the nest. The babies were so small that they posed no rescue "problems" at all. Sadly, Papa dove has been frantically searching for his family, but at least his family survived as he will now that the mate and babies are no longer there to tempt him into a dangerous area/situation.

Cute story. I'm glad the condo babies are safe. Poor papa dove will have a new family soon, I'm sure.
