Not Pigeons, But Still Interesting For Animal Rights People...http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/stor...#storycomments
It really makes me wonder about the sanity of exotic animal ownership laws in my country. The man's bitty lion has been put in jail (yes, that's correct) after breaking a dogchain it was tied to and escaping. It was not aggressive to police (it was quiet while they read it it's rights ), but now Canadian government don't know what to do with it.Also, very cute lion pictures. I still question how he got the animal. I cannot believe it was as legal as he says, and I worry about the future of this tame (for now) cat. |

Several years back, I was in New Hampshire looking at small farms. One of the places I looked at had a House Lion. While we were looking at the house, the Lion, which was huge, was put in a enclosure attached to the barn. The people had quite a nice master bedroom and at the end of the KING sized bed was Lion fur. They obviously had one pampered cat.
When we were looking at the barn, my son started to put his hand through the kennel wire to touch the large cat and I pulled his hand back very quickly. Made me very nervous.

I used to think zoos were cool, but I don't know anymore. why can't people just leave the wild critters alone,
: unless they are trying to save an endangerd species.or rehab, or house a unrealeseable animal. with the pictures and film that national geographic takes we don't need a zoo. this is a good example of what can happen when people bring wild animals in to our society.

They say this is a Barbary lion, which is extinct in the wild. I still don't think it justifies keeping one in the house with children. And I can't imagine what they were thinking giving it on lend to someone who obviously had no clue what it was. I 100% agree with you, Kippy. Usually when a large, potentially dangerous animal escapes because of the negligence of its handlers, it ends up being really bad and even fatal for the animal, whilst the owner gets a slap on the wrist.
I hate the idea of sending the cat to a zoo. Every zoo I've been to in this area, Quebec and Ontario, has been heartbreaking to me. I doubt the Canadian government will be kind enough to send it to a sanctuary. They might just take the easiest/cheapest option, without much concern for the lion's wellbeing. This whole situation is frustrating. Why did they even put it in jail? I find that kind of amusing, but also a think it's sign that nobody in authority knows what they are doing in this case. I've been following this story, and still no one's saying how he got this 'pet'. I don't see how you can legally obtain a three day old cub. |
