Oregon - Female Mallard Horribly Killed

Do NOT look at this link to the story if you are squeamish .. there are pictures of how the duck ended up: http://salem-news.com/articles/march...ted_3-8-08.php

Here is a link with text only .. heaven forbid .. this is bad enough: http://blog.oregonlive.com/breakingn..._students.html

Now .. you want to talk about your sick, deranged youth .. these two fit IMO.

I go to a big high school and see alot of Sick, Deranged, and Perverted youth. The worst is when they are all three. But these two are far worse to not only KILL but also dismember her and kill a duckling.

Bill the parents for their six cents each.

EDIT: Multiple Ducklings.

That is just horrible! I can't understand how kids could do such a thing and live with themselves. Doing that to a mother duck and her babies is very, very sick.

As often happens, kids that start out abusing, killing or harming animals, often move onto human victims later on in life.

The community of Canby is grief stricken. Because of the ages of the young people that killed her, they likely won't be punished except for probation. It makes me sick.

Another terrible story, why do people do these things. Is it the parents fault? Societies fault? Did something happen to these two when they were younger that makes them act out with such rage?

If something could only be done for people like this BEFORE they resort to such terrible actions.

I couldn't even look at the photos, the text was enough for me.

I read both articles. I don't think I have read an article or saw pictures that are as bad or unsettling as these are. It is a pity that juveniles are protected from their names being revealed or their photos being shown because these two should definitely be identified. If they can mutilate an innocent being like this mother duck, they're just a step away from mutilating a human.

Thank goodness there are still good kids out there like the one who turned them in. That took a lot of courage.

Poor little mother duck.

I won't read or look it will make me sick. I know where cruelty and torture of animals leads, and these kids are headed for a lifetime of destruction and harm done to others. It should not be tolerated no matter their age or other excuses.

Only probation? Considering their crime, they should go to jail. Now that they know they are capable of cruelty and mutilating a defenseless duck, what will be next? IF they only get probation, they may get out when they are 18? and then, maybe a child will be next! My question is: what kind of parents do these kids have? Where were they? What kind of home-life? I shutter to think of what they are capable of now.

I couldn't read it, I love my mallards and didn't want an image every time I saw one trotting confidently across the field to meet me. But from the comments of those of you who read the reports I wish I feel a wave of malevolence wash over me.

The RSPCA figures show that in my area there has been a large increase in animal cruelty. I think this is true of the whole world. . And I don't know what we can do about it.

Well...I'm probably a majority of one but I believe the techniques of our grandparents should be revived. A few sessions out in the woodshed experiencing REAL pain might teach young people to respect other creatures and realize what suffering comes with such actions. Too many of our youth are de-sensitized by the blood and guts they see on the TV and the big screen. Putting young people in jail is not the answer....they only learn from even more evil and more cruel inmates to be even worse offenders. JMO.

I could not read all of that. I just don't understand how you could deliberately hurt something, see it's pain, and not realize that what you're doing is horrible. I am not exaggerating when I say this - I've actually given it some thought - If I were the mother of one of those kids, I don't think I could ever love them, knowing that they could torture an animal like that.

It is beyond comprehension. Personally, I would like to be in a room alone. with the duo.

Sad and sickening. They don't need probation; they need to be locked up and treated for their apparent mental illnesses. It is indeed true that people that hurt/kill humans start out torturing animals. Talk about a warning sign. Hopefully they will get a judge who loves animals.

I think you have a point there! "the old woodshed," or "behind the barn." either one will do. Oh, I'd cut the switch for them too!
