Pigeon cull proposed in Norwich, UK

If anyone can write (with civility) to the newspaper publishing this story, please do.

We'll try to find other relevant addresses

I have just sent a letter to the paper. This is dreadful. We all know that a cull won't work and I will tell them (the paper) why. Does Guy at PiCAS know about this proposition? Just wondering.

Barbara James sounds a bit like an ill-infomed idiot!!

Hi Tania,

From the article it looks like they had been involved with Picas and had intended to follow their suggestions, until budget got in the way.

Thanks Tania.

I have the impression that they wait a couple of days then print a collection of letters on a single subject in a block.

Today's block was the response to the RSPCA threatening to prosecute someone for trapping and releasing grey squirrels rather than shooting them. Predictably someone referred to them as "tree rats".

If they print letters about the pigeons I will scan them in as they don't appear on the website.

Ggrrrr I love squirrels too.

What is it with mankind who encroach all over the planet, leave their rubbish everywhere and then wonder why the little creatures like squirrels, pigeons, foxes and rats get the easy pickings and began little by little to embrace our cozy little urban world - makes me mad. They were probably all here before homo sapien!!

The front page news was about a collared dove , http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/conte...A42%3A57%3A477 and three letters from pigeons.com members appeared on the letters page. There was a photo of pigeons on a roof, but I had to crop that to keep the picture size down:

Cynthia,

I'm impressed that the paper printed our letters and the letter from Julie in the USA ( I'm ignorant what is Julie's avator - anyone know?)

At least the headline screamed about the where will the killing stop. Its good positive advertising for pigeons - mine was bit from the gut because I am not an expert on pigeons but the sentiment was right.

Lets hope it does some good.

Thumbs up

Turkey - Thanks Treesa - I think from memory she has brightly coloured avator and she hasn't posted much recently ( but has lots of experience of pigeons) but....... this obviously struck a chord - Thanks Julie.

Another local pigeon supporter

I was pleased to see another knowledgeable response to the threat. Not anyone I know. I thought that his quotation about zoonoses would come in handy.
